Welcome Mr Chiliekeni! - March 2012
We are ready to welcome our visitor from Chiluwa 2 School, Mr Collings Chilekeni! He is visiting the UK and our school on the reciprocal part of our British Council grant. This is the first time he will be travelling out of Malawi and this is an exciting and important visit for both St John’s and Chiluwa 2 School to build on the existing schools partnership. We will be focusing on ‘Our Olympic Partnership’ which is described on the Malawi display board. We will also be moving our joint curriculum plan towards ‘Eco-Schools’ with an initial focus on ‘litter’.
Malawi 2011
On Friday 7th October the children took part in a special day for our link
school of Chiluwa 2 in Malawi. The children accessorised their uniform with all
sorts of blue things to represent the uniform of Chiluwa and the children watched videos of the school and the lessons that Miss Bateman and Mr Cline taught when they visited last year.
Thank you for all the generous donations of cakes for the cake sale at the end of the day. We wish Miss Bateman and Miss Purcell all the best for their trip next week and thank all parents and families who have given resources for the two teachers to take to Malawi.
MALAWI- 2010

Mr Cline and Miss Bateman travelled to Malawi in October 2010 with the gifts which had been given from our school.
Chris Knott of Starfish Malawi wrote “Dear friends, it was a tense moment as we waited for the container transport to arrive. At one stage we wondered whether they had forgotten us! But at last the vehicle arrived and in record speed the packing was complete. Everything was packed high - the work was complete and we wished God’s speed to all those items lovingly collected by boys and girls, men and women in different schools and churches throughout the South East of England for brothers and sisters 5000 miles away in Malawi. Thank you to everyone who contributed there will be a great celebration in Malawi when the container arrives there in about two months. God Bless.” We used some of the Sainsbury’s vouchers you collected for school to buy a parachute and sports equipment to send to Malawi and we thank everyone for their support.

Year 4 visit to Crawley
On Wednesday 7th March Year 4 took a trip to Crawley to meet our national link school St Margaret’s. The children were very excited to meet their Spanish pen-pals, create masks and even take part in some dancing. Well done to Year 4 for representing the school so well! “It was fun meeting our pen pals and we made masks and danced. Their playground is MASSIVE; they have chickens which look like bunnies. Their classes are named Sky Class and Ocean Class and the school is bigger than ours and it was quite like a maze.” By Hattie and Natalya.

Chaseley Trust Visit October 2011
On Friday 7th October Hattie, Edward, Jake, Natalya, Jasmine and Alastair from Y4 went with Mr De Marco for St John's first visit to The Chaseley Trust residential care home on South Cliff. The children entertained residents with some karaoke before learning about the activities of the Trust from the residents themselves. They also visited their computer suite and art room, where they saw amazing art and pottery by some of the residents and day visitors. This link is so important to our school as we seek to show children how different people in society are cared for, and what they are capable of! "I really enjoyed singing Karaoke" (Edward) "I thought it was amazing when I saw a painting that a lady had done just using her mouth to control the brush" (Jake).
