The
Agora is a big wide open space in the centre of some buildings. It was
the town’s market place and meeting place. Early in the morning people would start to come to the Agora from the town or nearby villages. If a slave didn’t have any regular work, then he’d go to the Agora hoping to be hired by the day, but the sort of work going there was the worst kind of labour – in quarries or mines.
