I was elected as Chair of Governors in July 2016 and have the privilege of leading the Board to ensure that we fulfil our statutory roles and responsibilities and promote high standards, working closely with the leadership and management of the school. I also help to develop and support governors in their roles in order that we can all contribute to the effective and strategic work of the Board.
My governance ‘career’ began in 1984 as a parent governor. Since that time, I’ve gained extensive experience in a number of local schools in a variety of governor roles including committee chair, vice chair and chair of governors. As the role of governance has changed significantly in recent years, I’ve had opportunities to work with school leaders and governors to develop best practice in leadership and management. I’ve also supported new governors in their development and training.
Our family, including 3 young sons, moved to Eastbourne in 1980 and I’ve had a career in education as a teacher specialising in Early Years and Music. My husband and I attend St John’s Church and being a Foundation governor is a real opportunity to combine my faith with governance. St John’s school celebrated a successful Ofsted in June 2016 and I know that we can build on our strengths as we look forward to future developments.
