School Trips
Y5 Residential visit to Bowles
On Wednesday 29th February, Year 5 (along with 3 Brighton University students, Miss Bateman, Liz Guest and Miss Lewis) went on a 3 day trip to Bowles Outdoor Centre, near Eridge. All the children took part in a range of exciting activities, such as abseiling down REAL rocks, archery, building rafts and racing them in the pool, competing on a low ropes obstacle course, skiing on a dry ski slope (and tackling the ski lift!), exploring and rock scrambling at Harrison's, orienteering around the centre and lots of teamwork games. We
arrived at around 11 am on Wednesday morning and pulled our suitcases up the very long and steep hill to our dormitories. The children were then challenged to make their own beds (some were more successful than others!) and we all unpacked. 1.40pm saw us begin our first activity and we kept going until dinner at 6.15pm. After some refuelling, we began our first night time activity. When we returned at about 9.15pm, lots of entertainment was provided by Ian and Edward's fantastic tiger pyjamas and then the children finally rolled into bed at around 10pm. Despite waking up rather early on Thursday morning (5.45am!!)
we kept our spirits up and threw ourselves into all of the days activities with lots of energy and enthusiasm! Beth Hawkins had an EXTRA special day as she celebrated her 10th Birthday with lots of cake and chocolate! Mr Cline came to visit us on Thursday evening and got stuck in on the low ropes course! After a 'Best Dressed Teddy' competition, lights went out on a very sleepy dormitory at 10pm! Friday was a much colder day, but we managed to battle against the wind to complete our final activities. We were all sad to be saying goodbye to Bowles when we left at 4.30pm! A very weary bus load of children (and even wearier adults!) arrived back at school at 5.45pm with lots of stories to tell. A great time was had by all and Year 5 would like to say a big THANK YOU to Miss Bateman and Liz Guest for coming with us and to all the parents for supporting us!!

NEWHAVEN FORT
On Monday 3rd October Year 5/6 dressed as evacuees and after an air raid siren went off at school they were evacuated to Newhaven Fort in coaches. At the fort the troops experienced an air raid shelter, walked the cliffs looking out for oncoming enemy ships, explored tunnels and even sat on an unexploded bomb! "It was great to experience what it was like in an Air Raid Shelter - it was smelly, dark and wet!" - Phoebe (Year 5)
Little Canada Visit 12th - 14th October
Year 4 had three excellent days on their residential trip (12th-14th October). They all took part in a range of activities (quad biking, orienteering, low ropes, giant swing and much more) and represented the school brilliantly! Thanks to Miss London, Mrs Barratt and Father Martin Onions for giving up their time to go away with our children. The groups thought about the Olympic values that they had achieved during their time on the Isle of Wight. “I liked rock climbing because I felt confident after having the courage to do it for the first time,” (Tom). “I liked the great egg race because we had fun doing all of the activities. We used our friendship skills to work hard as a team,” (Hollie).
Year 4-6 trip to Glyndebourne
On Tuesday 18th October 30 children from Year 4-6 went to watch a special performance of Puccini’s La boheme at Glyndebourne Opera House. The production was sensational, being brought up-to-date with modern-day settings and costumes. “I really enjoyed knowing what the people were singing from the sub-titles and all of the exciting parts like the flame-throwers!” (Caspar – Y5)
